Crucifixes replaced the ancient talismans and amulets that the men of faith brought to our shores when Spanish colonization began. Since then, the love for the cross (crosses that have no Christ figure on the cross is refered to as the cross) and the crucifix (crosses that have a Christ figure on the cross are referred to as the crucifix) has flourished up till today. The styles have changed through the generations but faithful veneration to the cross remain.

1. One of the most beautiful crosses that male heads of the family used during the colonial period is this silver cross with rounded balls on the ends of the cross, patterned holes appear on them. The body of the cross has an X formation at its intersection. Provenance of this cross is from the Ilocos region, circa early 1800s. Height is 2.25 inches. Width is 1.3 inches. Complimentary non tarnish regular hypoallergenic included.

2. A vintage brass cross that was brought to me by an agent some 20 years ago. Instead of the word INRI on top of the cross, whats inscribed is the Latin phrase Jesvs Nazarenvs Rex Ivdaeorvm which means Jesus of Nazareth, King of the Jews. On the other side of the cross reads Behold the heart which has so loved men. A complimentary non tarnish regular hypoallergenic chain is included. Length of cross including the loop is 2.5 inches. Width of cross is 1.25 inches.

3. A vintage brass cross with INRI inscribed on the top of the cross came to our hands some 20 years back. It was an interesting find and may be worn by both male or female. A complimentary non tarnish regular hypoallergenic chain is included. Length of the cross including the loop is 2.75 inches. Width of the cross is 1.7 inches.

4. An old silver rosary crucifix possibly circa 1940s. Comes with a vintage silver chain. Length of chain is 23 inches.

5. An old silver rosary cross possibly circa 1940s. Comes with a silver chain. Length of chain 17.5 inches. Height of cross including loop is 3 inches. Width of the cross is !.1 inches.

6. A beautiful vintage silver cross, elaborately styled with a blue sapphire gem in the center. 18k gold accents on the cross highlights the verying details . Filigree wire works on the sides makes the cross even more appealing. Inscribed behind the cross 925 INDONESIA 18k. A rope chain in silver is included. Height of cross including the loop is 3 inches. Width of the cross is 4 inches. Length of chain is 36 inches.

7. An elegant silver cross has beautifully cut faux diamonds on the body of the cross and a cubic cironia center diamond. Height of cross is 1 inch. Width of cross is half an inch. Legth of silver chain is 17 inches.

8. A rather unusual cross possibly 1970s made of a combination of silver, brass and wood. Comes with A rubber chain 18 inches in length. Height of the cross is 3.5 inches and width is 2.1 inches.

9. A crucifix from the late 18th to the early 19th century, made of silver on carabao horn. Provenance is Ilocos. A round-sectioned cross of this type would be coming from Vigan, Ilocos Sur. But flat ones would be made in Laoag, Ilocos Norte. This cross comes from Laoag, Ilocos Norte. Beginning from the late 16th century, the concentration of goldsmiths shifted to the to Manila-Bulacan-Pampanga, to Northern Luzon, to Vigan, Laoag and Tuguegarao (page 78 - 79 Hiyas book by Ramon Villegas). The crucifix hangs on a kerel chain, a weaving of thin wires that are very pliable. Goldsmiths of today wonder as to how it was handmade to flex so smoothly. Length of silver kerel chain is 30 inches.

10. A crucifix from the late 18th to the early 19th century, made of silver on tortoise shell. A round-sectioned cross of this type would be coming from Viga, Ilocos Sur. But flat ones would be made in Laoage, Ilocos Norte. This cross comes from Vigan, Ilocos Sur. Beginning from the late 16th century, the concentration of goldsmiths shifted to the to Manila-Bulacan-Pampanga, to Northern Luzon, to Vigan, Laoag and Tuguegarao (page 78 - 79 Hiyas book by Ramon Villegas). The crucifix hangs on an alukong chain. Alukong necklace is a chain composed of very fine florecitas attached to one another. Length of alukong chain is 28 inches. Height of crucifix with butterfly center medal is 3 inches. The width of the crucifix is 1.6 inches.

11. The kerel chain has very thinwires woven to a long twine soft and malleable it bends freely qithout resistance. Present day skilled artisans wonder at the skills used for they cannot make ias flexible as the kerel chain of olden days. Originally attached to the small cross of silver sheet plated in gold with small pearls that form a cross. This folk necklace is popularmong the majority of Filipinos during the Spanish colonial period. Length of chain is 28 inches. Drop length is 16 inches.

12. Crosses were worn by both male and female during the Spanish colonial period. And so is this beautiful period cross in gold plated silver. The four ends of the cross crafted in in filigree "kilabot" style as plateros or goldsmiths would call this bead style. Notice that this rounded filigree style with dull spikes around its surface is similar to a tamborine necklace bead with the same design. Dates to circ 1800s. Height of cross including the bale is 2 inches. Width is 1.25 inches. Comes with a complimentary non tarnish regular hypoallergenic chain.
